We are in the midst of an RV purchase with a man who has both title and possession of a beautiful RV that he represented as being owned by his uncle. The title has been signed by the purchaser (or there is a signature in the owner/seller line). The man is charming 29 year old, who brought his young family to the mall parking lot where the RV is situated. According to him, he is selling the RV for his uncle, who is suffering from cancer. He was willing to provide me a bill of sale but not in his uncles name. He did not want me to try to contact the uncle, because he was so sick.

We have given him $500 deposit and about to transfer the balance of $12,000. He tells me that he doesn't have to be at the vehicle registration office because the title has already beens signed over. It's that simple in Florida.

It's very difficult to resist his charm and the vehicle is gorgeous, low mileage, and very well priced. Does this sound like a scam?

I suggest verifying the VIN of the RV matches the title. Next find a local DMV / Tag Office and have the seller meet you there. If the title is OK they will transfer it into your name, then hand over a cashiers check for the balance.

Personally it sounds like the guy bought it from someone and is simply flipping it (curbstoner.) But if the title clerk does the transfer you're good to go. I wouldn't hand over the money any other way. Cover your ass! wink
