Doc's eBay Motors Sucks Blog

eBay Is Retiring The OLD eBay Motors On April 13th

Looks like eBay is retiring the old eBay Motors and forcing the new site to be the only choice There’s  a lot of griping HERE on the eBay Motors Discussion Board.

Doc hears there are Issues with it’s speed and load time – and lots of complaints about the search operation. He is on Road Runner 5mb and have a fairly fast computer – so he don’t really notice the speed issues.  And it seems most of the search complaints are for collector car and vintage parts. Unfortunately he has no clue about that either – so it would be nice to hear from anyone having problems in that area.

One thing Doc does know is Car Sales Stink on eBay Motors. Autotrader.com is delivering both local and export buyers, so it’s not the economy that’s effecting EBM Sales.

It is my belief that John Donahoe suspended so many of his long time members for minor selling policy violations. These sellers were also good buyers!

A lot more were suspended when eBay changed the feedback to an annual vrs lifetime percentage.  Like this guy was heard screaming at the last eBay Live “you put them out of business overnight” Then there was the DSR fiasco that cost more good sellers their membership.

Doc read on Ina Steiner’s Blog where eBay is giving buyers incentive to give sellers bad ratings, by offering a discount coupon for their next purchase.

Updated 09/23/2013: It appears eBay is beta testing yet another eBay Motors design.

Possibly even doing away with eBay Motors completely and moving the cars to eBay core.

I have bought two cars on the web, both from out of town. I daily used the old ebay motors page that had an outline of all the makes with all the models listed under each make. Getting to Caddilac Allante took two clicks, one on my desktop shortcut, one on Allante. Two keystrokes, no typing. I was a lurker and browser but I occasionally bought a car — the most recent a Porsche. Apparently ebay wants to drive away the lurkers and browsers by making the searches so difficult. Technology is supposed to make things easier, not more frustrating, and successful companies are supposed to cater to the whims of their users. My guess is that ebay wants to offer fewer search options so that all users land on the same page, giving a higher eyeball count for that splash page, which can be used to generate higher ad rates. The ebay Motors shortcut on my desktop is now deleted. Criag’s List still loves me. Jon T., San Antonio, TX

Terrible; Seems that all good things come to an end. Whoever designed this new site has never been in the end user position. Hard to use, unable to refine list into NOS only, poor layout, and generally not user friendly. I find myself giving up!!

To put the new ebay motors into my words is it sucks, I just tried to isolate a certain year on a miata I was just looking at the older models and it wouldn’t let me search for the old model alone without showing me the 2012 or 2013 cars.

It seems that the small one car sellers, are being pushed off the site by big business

It looks like eBay is doing away with eBay Motors. They are beta testing a new search and item page layout that resembles eBay core. The bottom photos are gone, and you can no longer search by year alone. From this new look it appears that eBay Motors will get the axe – and cars will become part of eBay.com core website. Check it out!
