An executive at eBay Inc.’s PayPal business unit who had served as finance chief at the company’s former Internet calling unit Skype was struck and killed by a train in Silicon Valley on Friday.
Eric Salvatierra was 39. He was hit by a Caltrain commuter train in Menlo Park, Calif.
A spokeswoman for Caltrain said the matter is still under investigation and declined further comment.
A PayPal spokesman said in a statement, “The eBay family will miss Eric very much. Our thoughts are with his family and all that knew him at this difficult time.”
“Mr. Salvatierra had been serving as vice president of customer advocacy and operational excellence at eBay’s payments unit PayPal.”
Prior to that role, Mr. Salvatierra had served as vice president and chief financial officer at Skype from the time it was acquired by eBay in 2005 until early 2007, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Wonder if this had anything to do with the firestorm of media coverage about PayPal holding sellers money?
